EXPERT COMMERCIAL DEMOLITION

ENSURING ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Total Wrecking & Environmental is one of the few nationwide demolition contractors with the experience and expertise to safely handle the most challenging industrial demolition projects out there.

Whether it’s a large-scale industrial facility, a complex warehouse structure, or a high-rise jobsite in the middle of a dense urban block, you can rely on a job well done by a demolition contractor committed to safety, quality, and integrity every step of the way.

WAREHOUSE FACILITIES

The demolition of warehouse facilities involves a host of unique challenges, including the management of substantial trusses and beams, which can deteriorate over time and pose serious safety hazards. Warehouses often contain hazardous materials like asbestos, which requires extremely specialized handling and rigorous health and safety protocols.

Warehouses are often situated near busy operational areas – think of an active runway – which requires meticulous dust, debris, and noise control to minimize disruption. Our asset recovery and recycling expertise also reduces environmental impact and project costs for warehouse owners.

No matter the challenge, Total Wrecking & Environmental is equipped to tackle these challenges with the utmost safety, quality, and integrity.

VERTICAL DEMOLITION

Vertical demolition, or the demolition of tall buildings or structures, is one of Total Wrecking’s many areas of expertise. While we can perform any traditional method of demolition if needed or preferred, we also have the qualified staff, equipment, and experience to dismantle the tallest structures in the most sensitive locations, including large hotels, universities, or hospitals located on downtown city blocks that require minimal disturbance and safety hazards.

HOW DO WE MAKE THAT POSSIBLE?

Thanks to a proprietary invention designed and developed by Frank Bodami named “The Guillotine” we’re able to employ this unique tool for complex demolitions where traditional methods are too high-risk. The Guillotine is a large, crane-held tool that can surgically remove towering structures piece by piece, even at hundreds of feet tall. The Guillotine cuts concrete commercial structures like butter and is usually reserved for unique situations where safe or efficient implosion isn’t possible, it’s too dangerous for crew members to perform at that height, or to safely dismantle a building piece-by-piece from top-to-bottom with a skilled army of demolition experts and top-tier equipment.

SPORTS & STADIUMS DEMOLITION

Demolishing structures like sports stadiums and indoor arenas presents several unique challenges thanks in large part to their complex structural systems and the high loads they carry. Ensuring worker safety and preparation during these projects is more important than ever.

When professional teams need to switch facilities, time is always of the essence. Tight schedules and public funding pressures often mean that the lowest bid is accepted, even if the contractor lacks experience with intricate demolitions like these.

At Total Wrecking & Environmental, our decades-long experience in demolishing unique structures under challenging conditions, combined with our ability to perform on unique schedules, makes us the ideal partner.

MANUFACTURING & FOOD PROCESSING

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to demolition, especially when it comes to manufacturing and food processing plants. Each facility presents its own set of hazards. While these sites are generally considered lower-risk, they still pose unique dangers and complexities.

Manufacturing plants harbor chemical hazards or produce substances like penicillin, which can trigger severe allergies in workers. They might be situated near hot oil lines or major power grids, or require demolition work around active elements.

Total Wrecking & Environmental understands these challenges well and is prepared to handle them with unparalleled precision and care, with worker safety and community preservation forever at the forefront.

COMMERCIAL DEMOLITION SUCCESS STORY

NORTHLAND WORKFORCE TRAINING CORRIDOR

This project was a $15,000,000 + contract that included total interior demolition of a 300,000 SF industrial manufacturing facility. The work included removal of PCB wood block flooring, PCB contaminated hazardous
and non- hazardous concrete, clean out and washing off 19 pits with PCB contamination and debris, asbestos abatement, roof removal, window removal, and removal of all appurtenances throughout the structure leaving a structural steel skeleton that was totally renovated to house a new technical college for the city of Buffalo. The facility’s PCB contamination was widespread throughout the warehouse and manufacturing facility, including wood block flooring throughout, concrete slabs underneath the wood block flooring, and numerous pits, sumps, and trenches.

Through the combined use of an EPA approved Self Implementing Clean-up plan, mapping of in situ PCB concentrations throughout and extensive waste segregation and profiling, Total was able to save the facility Owner millions of dollars in remediation transportation and disposal cost. Our scope of work also included over $1.5 million of asbestos abatement, and the complete gutting of the fourstory Office complex and the entire manufacturing facility,
including dozens of overhead cranes ranging from 1-50 tons lift capacities. Lead paint was present throughout and was removed as part of the gutting of the buildings. Remaining surfaces were completely decontaminated and
power washed to remove any flaking or peeling paint in preparation for encapsulation or enclosure as part of the build-out phase of work.

Total Wrecking’s performance was commended by Gilbane and the Owners on the demolition/remediation portion of the project, and since, Gilbane has awarded Total Wrecking two additional contracts at the site totaling over $4 million; one for the site remediation including the removal and disposal of
thousands of tons of contaminated and hazardous soils, and installation of site utilities including Water, sewer, and electric; and the other for the site improvements and restoration including paving, concrete, improvements, and landscaping.
