CLECO BOILER 6

CLECO’s Coughlin Station consists of 3 combustion turbines (CT) and HRSGs that supply steam to two repowered steam turbine generators, Unit 6 and Unit 7. The Units were repowered in the early 2000s and the natural gas boilers were left mostly in place. The Unit 6 Boiler, an early 1960’s vintage B&W natural gas fired boiler for a 115 MW steam turbine, has deteriorated and requires removal. The scope of the demolition is focused on removing the abandoned boiler and its associated components such as pipes,  catwalks, stairs and steam drums. This project was performed surgically by the use of skilled torch personnel, riggers and cranes to pick boilers down. Once demolition was complete, structures were left in place in preparation to accept a new boilers. A new permanent rail and cover was also installed. All work was done in an active power plant and Total Wrecking was required to work around scheduled plant outages and scheduled maintenance.
